Craft beer bar Bibibi. in Daikanyama, Tokyo, has released “Bibibibibraphone,” an original beer brewed in collaboration with Butterfly Brewery in Kasugai, Aichi.
Bibibi. makes an original beer each year for its staff summer gathering, an important opportunity for the team to connect despite the bar’s usual one-person operation. This year’s beer marked a long-awaited collaboration with Butterfly Brewery, a brewery that has supported Bibibi. since its early days.
The beer is a lemon gose, a style that was new to Butterfly Brewery. Gose is known for its tart and salty character, making it a fitting choice for the summer season. Lemon, also a new ingredient for the brewery, adds a bright citrus note to its clean brewing style and helps make the beer highly drinkable.
The name reflects Butterfly Brewery’s distinctive approach of naming beers after musical instruments, including guitar, flute, piccolo, and viola. Since “vibraphone” could be combined with Bibibi.’s name, the beer was named “Bibibibibraphone.”
The brewing took place in early June in Kasugai. Beer Man, a beer bar in Ikejiri-Ohashi, also joined the project, and the beer was released simultaneously at both venues on July 23. On August 29, Bibibi. and Butterfly Brewery held a collaborative beer run, followed by a toast. After a five-kilometer run, the lemon-accented gose offered a refreshing reward.
Bibibi. is a bar specializing in Japanese craft beer, with a focus on sharing the stories behind brewers and their beers. Visitors can enjoy Bibibibibraphone at the Daikanyama location while learning about the collaboration that brought it to life. The beer is also scheduled to be served at the Daikanyama Soryo Festival and the Konno Hachimangu Shrine festival on September 19 and 20.
