TIELS Brewing, a small craft brewery in Mishima, Shizuoka, has announced the return of its Brown Ale with a newly brewed batch.

The beer is built around a clear malt character. Its malty palate is accompanied by a subtle spicy impression, creating a rich and composed ale meant to be enjoyed slowly rather than consumed in a hurry. The brewery describes it as an especially fitting beer for quiet autumn drinking.

A new aromatic direction

Previous batches of the Brown Ale placed the citrus aroma of American hops at the forefront. For this batch, TIELS Brewing has changed its approach and is aiming for a more herbal aroma. The adjustment gives the beer a different expression while preserving the malt-forward character that has made the style popular with regular drinkers.

The combination of malt depth, gentle spice, and herbal notes should make this a versatile beer for relaxed drinking. It can be enjoyed on its own, or paired with a meal at the brewery’s taproom. Comparing the new batch with earlier versions may also be an interesting way to appreciate how a familiar house beer can evolve through small changes in brewing direction.

TIELS Brewing operates a small-scale brewery with a 250-liter brewhouse. The brewery makes use of fruits and agricultural products from the Izu area, while its adjoining pub, TIELS TEA & TAPS, serves house-brewed beer alongside fish and chips, other dishes, tea, and non-alcoholic drinks.

With service now resumed, the new Brown Ale offers a chance to experience a more herbal interpretation of one of TIELS Brewing’s established styles. The brewery is also inviting customers to share their impressions of the latest batch.
