Heiwa Craft, the craft beer brand produced by Heiwa Shuzo in Kainan, Wakayama, has received multiple honors at the International Beer Cup 2026.

Its A STUDY IN PINK won gold in the Field Beer category and was also selected as the Fruits category champion. According to Heiwa Shuzo, the beer is made with fresh ginger grown in Wakayama, where the brewery is located. The results highlight the appeal of using local ingredients in a contemporary craft beer.

The brewery’s long-running I.P.A also received a bronze medal in the American-Style Strong Ale category. Heiwa Shuzo says that the batches currently in circulation are the award-winning lots and encourages beer drinkers to seek them out.

Heiwa Shuzo was founded in 1928 and is also known for its sake brand KID and its plum liqueur Tsurume. After a beer-loving employee joined the company, the brewery began exploring craft beer in 2012 and launched Heiwa Craft in 2016.

The brewery uses groundwater from the Kishikawa River, whose source is Mount Koya, for brewing. It also combines brewing knowledge developed through sake production with ingredients associated with Wakayama, including yuzu, sansho pepper and local fruit. Heiwa Craft aims to make beers that are distinctive yet easy to finish in a single sitting.

These awards bring renewed attention to Heiwa Craft’s approach of combining local Wakayama ingredients with the expertise of a traditional sake brewery. Beer fans may want to compare A STUDY IN PINK, with its fresh ginger character, alongside the award-winning I.P.A.
