A student-led collaboration at the brew house

On April 13, Pio Beer’s Ikeda visited Northern Brew in Abira, Hokkaido. According to Northern Brew’s post, the two sides brewed the original beer "YuBi Kokoro Mansai" and Ikeda also took part in the brewing work.

Pio Beer is an original beer brand created by beer-loving students at Hokkaido University. Northern Brew shared that the visit brought fresh ideas and a flexible way of thinking into the brew day, making this more than a simple production project. It was a hands-on collaboration built around conversation, learning, and shared brewing work.

About Northern Brew

Northern Brew is based in Abira, Hokkaido, and focuses on craft beer made with respect for the region’s nature and primary industries. The brewery says it aims to use local ingredients whenever possible. Its original beer made with Abira-grown oats is described as fruity and juicy, with bitterness kept relatively low. The brewery also operates a sports and beer bar in town, pairing beer with BBQ-style food.

For this project, Northern Brew says "YuBi Kokoro Mansai" can be enjoyed at Hininituka in Sapporo. The beer now stands as another example of how local brewing and student creativity can come together in Hokkaido.
