A flagship beer rooted in Abira

Northern Brew, based in Abira, Hokkaido, has developed TAP1, a craft beer made with barley and oats grown in Abira. The beer has a hazy appearance and a smooth mouthfeel, reflecting the use of oats in the recipe.

TAP1 offers a fruity, juicy profile. Tropical hop aromas reminiscent of South Pacific fruit appear as soon as the beer is poured, followed by a comfortable bitterness on the palate. Its finish is clean and refreshing, making it approachable for newer craft beer drinkers while still appealing to IPA fans.

Designed for post-golf and post-sauna moments

TAP1 is available at Hayakita Country Club in Abira. The facility features an 18-hole golf course, a public bath, and a sauna with self-pour löyly. Northern Brew presents the beer as a drink to enjoy after a round or after cooling down from a sauna session.

Its bright aroma, moderate bitterness, and crisp finish make it a natural fit for a relaxed recovery break. The beer can also be purchased at the clubhouse shop as a souvenir for visitors who want to take home a taste of their Hokkaido golf experience.

Connecting beer with the town

Northern Brew uses local ingredients such as barley and oats from Abira, linking its beers with the agricultural character of the town. The brewery’s approach is to create new experiences through beer while bringing together local producers, brewers, and visitors.

With Abira-grown grains at its center, TAP1 offers more than a refreshing drink. It is also an expression of place—one that pairs naturally with Hokkaido’s open landscapes, golf culture, and sauna time.
