On Tap Beer

At NAMACHAn Stand Kitaikebukuro, the collaboration beer "Jiyugakuen Myonichikan Sakura Smoke Lager" with Toshima Ward's nationally designated Important Cultural Property, Jiyugakuen Myonichikan, has been tapped. The style is Smoke Lager, and the alcohol content is 5.0%. Its defining feature is a design that layers cherry blossom nuances with smokiness, using chips made from pruning branches of the cherry tree at Myonichikan, which is over 70 years old, to smoke the malt.

This beer is the second release in the collaboration, following the first beer, "Sakura Smoke IPA." By expanding from an IPA to a lager, it keeps the aromatic character while also promising a more cohesive finish and greater ease as a beer to drink with food. It carries through the same sense of NAMACHAn Brewing's signature, slightly inventive approach to brewing.

Shop Features

NAMACHAn Stand Kitaikebukuro is a brewpub attached to NAMACHAn Brewing's third brewery. Located a five-minute walk from Kitaikebukuro Station, it has a compact setup with five counter seats, two barrel tables, and a standing counter, making it easy to enjoy freshly brewed beer. The shop's own description emphasizes that it brews mostly more subdued, "adult" beers such as barrel-aged beers, beer cocktails, and coffee beers.

The food pairing is centered on smoked dishes, matching the aroma of the beer. Because this small space packs in a brewery, a bar, and smoked-food elements, the appeal lies not just in having a single drink but in tasting the shop's whole background. Collaboration beers like this one are the kind of topic that best reveal that character.
