Craft Beer 2 TAPS, a beer pub in Shioiri-cho, Yokosuka, now has Shiga Kogen Beer’s Yuru Buru spelt on tap. The beer comes from Tamamura Honten’s long-running Yuru Buru line, reworked as a Hazy Wheat IPA with spelt at the center of the grist.

According to the brewery’s product notes, more than 25% of the beer uses homegrown spelt wheat. The hop bill leans on New Zealand varieties, backed by homegrown Cascade and another American hop. In the glass, it shows an orange, hazy look with notes of apricot and orange, plus a faint spice character from the spelt. The body is soft, while the finish is a little lighter and more agile than the earlier Wheat version.

That makes it a good fit for food as well as for a relaxed pint. The bitterness stays in check, but the beer still has enough structure to feel like a proper hazy IPA rather than a simple wheat ale. For drinkers in Yokosuka looking for a distinctly Japanese craft beer with depth, this is an easy taproom pick.
