Horyuzan Brewery to Hold "Glue Kintsugi Experience" Closed-Day Event on March 9
Horyuzan Brewery in Kurihama, Yokosuka, Kanagawa Prefecture, will hold a "Glue Kintsugi Experience" on March 9 as a regular closed-day event. With lunch and beer included, the program lets participants get a feel for the gateway to kintsugi through repairing tableware.
Horyuzan Brewery, located in Kurihama, Yokosuka, Kanagawa Prefecture, is known as a craft beer brewery brewed by a Jodo Shinshu Otani-ha Buddhist monk. On its official website, it states that it uses water from Hashirimizu in Yokosuka and aims to make beers with a classical, well-rounded flavor.
The event announced this time is the "Glue Kintsugi Experience," held on the brewery's regular closing day. Glue kintsugi is a method of repairing tableware with cracks, chips, or breaks by bonding the pieces with glue and decorating the seams with gold, and is said to make traditional kintsugi more approachable for beginners. Rather than being just another workshop, it stands out for offering a chance to think about using things for a long time.
The event includes lunch and beer, allowing participants to savor some hands-on craft time while taking it easy. It will be held on Monday, March 9, from 10:00 a.m.; participation costs 5,900 yen. The fee includes materials, lunch, and beer, and attendance is limited to eight people on a first-come, first-served basis. Applications are accepted by phone or through a dedicated form. As a project that combines a repair craft with a brewery setting, it is worth noting.
