On March 6, 2026, Futako Beer Brewery (Tokyo) announced on Instagram a collaboration project, “futakobrewery × Kinokawa Hassaku,” and revealed the release of its limited beer “Hassaku White.” The style is Fruit Ale. According to the post, this seasonal release was created in partnership with Kinokawa City in Wakayama Prefecture, one of Japan’s leading hassaku-growing regions, and uses hassaku peel and juice on a white ale base.

The flavor centers on the fresh, juicy character typical of citrus, along with a subtle bitterness from the peel. While its bright fruitiness comes forward first, the finish appears light and easy to keep drinking. It is likely to appeal not only to fans of fruit ales that put citrus front and center, but also to craft beer drinkers who value balance as a meal accompaniment.

In addition to in-store sales, cans are also available through the online shop. Starting the same day, a “Hassaku Fair” is also being held, offering limited drinks (Campari Hassaku, Hassaku Mimosa), a limited dessert (hassaku and grapefruit jelly), and a limited food item (scallop and hassaku carpaccio). Rather than simply releasing a new beer, the brewery has built out a citrus-themed pairing experience around it.

On its official website, Futako Beer describes itself as a local craft beer born in Futako-Tamagawa, aiming to offer “an everyday drink that blends into the town.” It is also advancing efforts to grow hops and barley locally, and collaborations like this one with a producing region are highly compatible with the brewery’s philosophy. The release shows where the brewery stands today in balancing urban-brewery identity with local character and broader collaborations.
