Joining a market where remote islands meet in Dogo
“Osakikamijima and Nakajima.” is being introduced as a slightly special marche with the theme of remote islands meeting in Dogo. The venue is on the grounds of Kowakuen in Dogo, and the organizer says the event was planned in response to requests such as, “We want the ‘Yuuyake Bar’ held on Osakikamijima to also be held in Matsuyama.”
Michishio Brewing from Osakikamijima will also be part of that gathering. Michishio Brewing is a small craft beer brewery that opened in April 2024 in Osakikamijima-cho, Toyota-gun, Hiroshima Prefecture, and the husband-and-wife team continues to brew on the island. With views of the port and shipyard, its work is characterized by an approach that seems to brew the island’s atmosphere itself.
In the organizer’s posts, Osakikamijima is introduced through efforts such as “the person making beer with island tomatoes and lemons” and “the person making wine by sinking grapes to the seabed,” highlighting projects that draw on the island’s ingredients and local energy. This event is also a place where the Nakajima side can learn about and connect with that atmosphere from Osakikamijima.
On the day, the Nakajima side will line up tastings of lemonade, weekend-relocation lemon juice, and mandarin orange juice, while the Osakikamijima side is scheduled to include `organicfarmnakahara` and `michishio_brewing`. Alongside beer, there will also be wine, lemonade, and juice tastings, creating a format where visitors can enjoy the flavors of the islands across categories.
The event is scheduled for “the weekend at the end of May,” from 13:00 to 20:00. It is designed as a leisurely event in Dogo, including foot baths and strolling for food, and for Michishio Brewing it seems likely to be an opportunity to convey the appeal of the region through island craft beer.
