Kyoto Brewing, which began brewing in 2015 in Minami Ward, Kyoto City, has introduced 'Irotoridori NZ IPA Edition' as a new addition to its KBC2.0 series. As expected from a brewery influenced by traditional Belgian brewing methods and American craft beer culture, this release is designed to showcase the character of New Zealand hops.
Beer Features
- English name: Irotoridori NZ IPA
- Style: NZ IPA
- ABV: 6.0%
- IBU: 30
- Gas volume: 2.65
The flavor is built around a sharp finish and a clean drinking profile. The fruity character of NZ hops comes through clearly, balancing high drinkability with a bright, expressive aroma. In brewing, pilsner malt serves as the base, with a small amount of corn added to keep the color pale while emphasizing a crisp aftertaste. A small amount of American Munich malt is also used to give the body and mouthfeel more depth.
The hop bill is another highlight. In addition to Riwaka, Motueka, and Kohia Nelson, the brewery has also added Manalita for the first time. Kohia Nelson brings passion fruit notes, Motueka adds lime peel-like nuances, and Manalita contributes aromas reminiscent of red gummy candy and pink grapefruit, creating a tropical, multidimensional impression. Furthermore, after low-temperature fermentation and maturation, NZ hops are added again right before fermentation ends, bringing out bright peach and stone fruit aromas.
Kyoto Brewing is a brewery that has offered a wide range of styles, from core products to limited releases, and in recent years it has also been expanding its canned offerings and investing in quality improvements. Introduced in that context, this NZ IPA is being presented as a beer suited to the spring-to-summer season: not too heavy, yet with a clearly present aromatic character.
