Onomichi Brewery is a brewpub that makes use of a historic storehouse built in 1894. Located about a 15-minute walk from JR Onomichi Station at Onomichi City Kubo 1-2-24, it offers freshly brewed beer on site thanks to the brewery inside the premises.

The news this time is its inclusion in “The Globe-Trotter’s Guide to Hiroshima 2025-26.” Onomichi Brewery appears in the opening feature, “It’s Here! Hiroshima, the Sake Capital’s Craft Boom,” and is introduced as one of the places showcasing the region’s craft beer culture. The brewery says it wants to keep energizing Onomichi with beer, including the background of having moved from Chiba and started brewing there.

The beer lineup is notable for its clear use of Onomichi-inspired ingredients. The standard Onomichi Ale is a pale ale made with lemons from Onomichi, while Shimanami Golden Ale is a golden beer that highlights the flavor of malt. There is also Onomichi IPA, which puts hop aroma front and center, and Lime Gose, with a bright balance of salt and lime acidity, making the lineup easy to pair with meals or enjoy in hot weather.

There are also strongly local offerings such as Onomichi Iriko Rauchbier, which brings out the aroma of dried sardines; Shironeko Weizen, made with wheat malt; Onomichi Hard Cider, made with apples; and Fig Spice, combining figs and spices. That strong sense of place is very much part of what makes Onomichi Brewery distinctive. It is appealing as a place where visitors can stop by during sightseeing and choose a beer that engages with local ingredients.

Hours are mainly Friday through Sunday, making it easy to visit along with a stroll around Onomichi. Learn about Onomichi from the booklet, then drink beer on site. The way those two experiences naturally connect is what makes this place interesting.
