A distinctive brewery from Kamiooka

Bibibi., a craft beer pub in Daikanyama, is highlighting Loto Brewery in its series introducing breweries personally visited by the bar’s owner. This installment focuses on the brewery’s roots in Kamiooka, Yokohama.

Loto Brewery began as a rare concept: a ramen restaurant that brewed its own craft beer. Its driving force, Tatsuya Aso, entered the food and beverage business after giving up his pursuit of a legal career. He opened a bar in 2009 and later developed several businesses in the Kamiooka area.

The brewery’s taproom-related ramen restaurant, Menya Tenku, attracted attention soon after opening. Although the ramen business is currently on hiatus following a restructuring of the company’s operations, the project remains an intriguing example of how local dining and craft brewing can be combined.

The names Loto Brewery, Luida, and Parupuntei also reflect Aso’s enthusiasm for classic role-playing games. That playful influence, together with his willingness to try unconventional business ideas, forms an important part of the brewery’s identity.

At Bibibi., guests can enjoy Japanese craft beer alongside the stories of the people who make it. Located in a Castle Mansion building in Daikanyama, the welcoming standing bar is easy to visit alone. During the Loto Brewery tap-on, beer lovers can explore the brewery’s background while enjoying its beers in a relaxed setting.
