At the beer pub Manchin Saketen / MANGOSTEEN in Daizawa, Setagaya, Tokyo, two saisons from Field Ales in Shinano Town, Nagano Prefecture have been newly introduced. Manchin Saketen combines the elements of a liquor store, bar, deli, and lounge, and its signature feature is that you can enjoy the drinks sold in the shop right there on the premises.
The post highlights two bottles: Field Saison / Countryside Ale 6.0% and Wash Away / Euro Hop Saison 6.0%. Both are 530 ml bottles finished with secondary fermentation in the bottle, making them just the right size to share between two people. The labels are said to be handwritten one by one, giving the lineup a handmade feel that comes through not only in the beer itself but also in the touch of its makers.
Field Saison is a new batch of the standard Field Saison. It uses plenty of Cascade hops grown in Nagawa by OKABE-san, harvested the previous year, and is designed to bring together the aroma and bitterness that feel true to a saison. Wash Away is a Euro Hop Saison crafted with an eye toward pairing with the bitterness of wild mountain vegetables; its strengths are earthy, young-grass-like aromas, restrained fruitiness, and lively carbonation. The post also suggests pairing it with mountain vegetable tempura, making this an item to enjoy as much with food as by itself.
Manchin Saketen is known as a shop that carries not only craft beer but also mezcal and natural wine. This time, among that selection, it is an arrival notice featuring two calm yet well-structured bottles that saison lovers will want to stop for.
