Nara's Gutt Wolf Beer Releases "NOROSHI" Online, Made with Homegrown Hops
At 7:03 a.m. on March 15, Nara's Gutt Wolf Beer (Higashiyoshino Village) announced that its FRESH HOP BEER "NOROSHI" is also being sold online. This is a beer brewed using hops they grew themselves while still fresh, a new product that translates the challenge of hop cultivation itself into beer.
Gutt Wolf Beer’s "NOROSHI" is a FRESH HOP BEER made with hops grown in the brewery’s garden. In the post, it not only says that it is "also available online," but also подробно details the cultivation and brewing process that led to this beer.
They began their first planting in 2021, and in spring 2025 added five more seedlings. With a total of seven plants, they fully stepped up their hop cultivation for use in beer. The spark, they say, was meeting hop farmers in Tono, Iwate. They toured the fields and processing steps on site, and even got hands-on experience with tasks such as opening up the plants. From there, they took on the challenge in Higashiyoshino Village, and named the beer NOROSHI as a signal flare for that effort.
The cultivation was not smooth sailing; strong winds even broke some of the support poles. Still, they harvested about 3 kg at the end of August. The harvested hops were frozen while still fresh, then brewed in December and finished in January 2026. The style is an American Pale Ale. All of the harvested hops were used for the aroma and flavor.
On its official website, the brewery also promotes "mountain water and mountain blessings," highlighting the character of Oku-Yamato and Higashiyoshino Village. "NOROSHI" can be seen as a product that does not leave those words as a mere concept, but connects cultivation and brewing in one beer. It is sold at the brewery, through the online shop, and at the Hiyoshino no Sato Marche in Higashiyoshino Village.
