Shiokaze Blue Lab Brewery announced the release party for its new "Shibakuzo!" in an Instagram post published on April 17. According to the post, the event is scheduled for the "final week of this month," and it will be the brewery's first beer to top ABV 10%. A toast is planned for around 7 p.m., and pairing food will also be provided.
Shiokaze Blue Lab is a Chiba City brewery founded by Chris Poole, who spent many years working at Baird Beer in Shizuoka. After brewing as a phantom brewery, it established its own brewery in the Chiba Port Area and has since, true to the name "Lab," released a wide variety of beers. Its official website also emphasizes an approach that is not bound by fixed ideas about ingredients or recipes, and instead creates diverse beers.
On beer information sites, "Shibakuzo!" is introduced as a strong ale, with a design that combines the malt depth from red sugar, the character of dark malt, and the green notes of hops. In terms of specs, it is listed at ABV 9.5% and IBU 100+, suggesting a build that considers not only visual strength but also balance on the palate. It is a new release that feels typical of this brewery, which continues to push out ambitious beers ranging from core offerings to limited editions based in Chiba.
