Big Hand Bros Brewery (Kyoto City) introduced its new "Gyrolite" in an Instagram post. The style is Session India Porter, with an alcohol content of 3.5% and an IBU of 51. Using malt made from a barley variety that was widely cultivated in Britain in the 19th century, it is designed with a rustic grain character and depth.
From the glass rises a bright citrus aroma reminiscent of grapefruit peel. The mouthfeel is smooth, with gentle sweetness and a solid body, while a moderate bitterness keeps the whole beer in check. The finish comes together dry, giving the impression of an easy-drinking porter that is not too heavy.
The post also announced that it is available in-store and online. It is offered at the Teramachi Taproom (south of Teramachi Nijo, Mon-Thu / Sun 12:00-20:00, Fri / Sat 12:00-22:00) and the Chiekoin Taproom (south of Imadegawa Chiekoin, Marble BLDG. B1F, Wed-Sun 11:30-20:00, closed Mon/Tue). As a new beer to enjoy at Kyoto taprooms, it is one that will catch the eye not only of dark beer fans but also anyone looking for a hoppy porter.
