Sakata Traditional Beer will release a fruit ale, 'SHINE MUSCAT BLANC,' on April 17, using 20% Shine Muscat grapes grown by producers in Sakata and Tsuruoka. Reservations will open on April 9, and the beer will be sold as a bottled product.
Sakata Traditional Beer has announced a new product, 'SHINE MUSCAT BLANC.' The release date is April 17, 2026, with reservations on STORES starting April 9, and sequential shipping also beginning on April 17.
This new release is a fruit ale based on a white ale. Its ingredients include 20% Shine Muscat grapes grown by producers in Sakata and Tsuruoka. Facing the impressive bunches they saw in the fields, the brewery worked on the brew with the feeling that "not a single grape can be wasted," with all staff members cutting and crushing the grapes by hand as they moved forward with production.
The flavor design is also distinctive. The post explains that when the liquid is clear, you can enjoy a Shine Muscat fruitiness like sparkling wine, and when the settled yeast and malt components are mixed in, a more beer-like flavor is added. At around 10 degrees Celsius, the aroma and sweetness become stronger, bringing out the character of Shine Muscat even more.
The specs are ABV 4.5%, IBU 5.4, and a price of 821 yen (tax included). It uses Pilsner and Wheat malts, with Hallertau Blanc and Nelson Sauvin hops, resulting in a crisp finish. The hops are kept subdued to highlight the sweet aroma, fruitiness, and refreshing character of the Shine Muscat.
Sakata Traditional Beer is a brewery based in Sakata, Yamagata Prefecture, and has been advancing beer production that makes use of local ingredients. Its lineup has included a pale ale made with Shonai-grown Tsuyahime rice, and its regionally rooted approach stands out. This time as well, 'SHINE MUSCAT BLANC' deserves attention as a beer that connects Yamagata fruit with brewing.
