On Friday, May 1, BEER HUNTING URAWA will be open from 17:00 to 23:30. With food last order at 22:45 and drinks last order at 23:00, the wood-toned interior near the west exit of Kita-Urawa Station was stocked with craft beers from all over Japan. The calm, lodge-like atmosphere is part of what makes this place ideal for taking your time and drinking slowly.
The highlight of the day is the update to the hand-pumped real ales. In addition to Shiga Kogen Beer’s Africa Pale Ale, U.B.P BREWERY (Urawa)’s Shadow Real Ale ver. has arrived. The dark ale Shadow is presented as a beer you can "sip at a relaxed pace," making it well suited to a slow, contemplative drinking style.
The tap list also included U.B.P BREWERY’s own brewed Kick Off Pils, Step Over, and Bombonera. Other selections included Cat's Drink (Ise Kadoya Beer), OTAMA SAISON (HOPDOG BREWING), Rockin' Monkey IPA (Minoh Beer), Earl Grey (Johana Brewery), HAOTO, and YAMASACHI 1-Year Aged ver. (both from Brasserie Knot), offering a broad range from pilsner and IPA to hazy SIPA, saison, honey ale, and fruit IPA.
The non-beer options are also well stocked, with lemon sours made using non-wax lemons and oni-oroshi sours available. The food menu features items that are easy to snack on while drinking, such as a chef’s assorted appetizer plate, steamed shrimp tom yum salad, gizzard ethnic fried chicken, Sichuan-style drool chicken, and various shumai. The liquor-shop corner is also operating, so one of the nice touches is that you can choose a favorite beer to take home.
The May business schedule also includes Sunday Roast and Nose Curry days, so the experience changes depending on when you visit. Anchored by Japanese craft beer, it is a spot well suited to sitting down for a meal and enjoying a serious drink.
