A Hazy Belgian IPA with saison character
HOP MAN has newly tapped “Ikkyou Ryoutoku / Hazy Belgian IPA” from Shiga Kogen Beer. According to the brewery’s description, the beer was created from the idea of combining the character of a hazy IPA with that of a saison. Two different yeasts were used in the brewing process.
The beer has an alcohol content of 7.5% and 26 IBU. Its appearance is lightly orange-tinted and hazy, with a malt base of Maris Otter and homegrown spelt wheat. The aroma suggests pineapple and mango, while red-orange-like citrus notes add brightness.
Although the palate has a gentle sweetness, the finish is dry in the manner of a saison. Unlike many hazy beers, it is not designed around pronounced sweetness, instead retaining the light, expressive character associated with Shiga Kogen Beer. Its smooth drinkability may make the 7.5% alcohol content less immediately apparent.
