Dr. KONG BREWING in Ube, Yamaguchi, has announced the return of its milkshake IPA, “20HEXAers.” According to the original announcement, sales will begin on November 15.

The beer was created to commemorate the 20th anniversary of Ube’s northern area. Blueberries grown in the local Futamatase district are used generously, while the milkshake IPA style was selected to highlight the fruit’s sweet-and-tart character. Hop and vanilla aromas are added to create a fuller, more playful profile.

The brewery describes an aroma led by berries and sweet florals, with citrus notes and a subtle touch of vanilla. This layered fragrance is intended to offer complexity even before the first sip.

On the palate, the beer features the moderate sweetness associated with milkshake IPAs. Blueberry-derived acidity adds balance, resulting in a beer with noticeable flavor but an approachable, easy-drinking character.

Dr. KONG BREWING operates in Ube at Nagayama Honke Shuzojo, a sake brewery known for the “Taka” brand. The brewery incorporates ideas rooted in sake brewing while focusing on locally sourced ingredients and expressing their individual character. “20HEXAers” reflects that philosophy by connecting a contemporary IPA style with fruit from the surrounding community.

The brewery also operates a shop and café at its Ube location. For beer lovers visiting the area, the returning “20HEXAers” offers a chance to taste the sweet-tart character of Futamatase blueberries alongside hop, citrus, and vanilla notes.
