What kind of brewery is KeMBY'S IWAKUNI BASE BREWERY?

You know there’s a brewery in Iwakuni run by an owner from Nepal? It’s called KeMBY'S IWAKUNI BASE BREWERY.

Wait, Nepal!? In Iwakuni!?

The owner, Prakash, is from Kathmandu, and he originally took over an international cafe bar in Hiroshima. He turned it into Hiroshima’s first microbrewery. The brewing side operates as Hiroshima Micro Brewing Company, or HMBC for short.
Mugi
Hiroshima’s first microbrewery!? And he switched from a cafe? That’s incredible.

And then they expanded to Iwakuni, where they opened a diner just a 3-minute walk from Iwakuni Station. Since there’s a U.S. Marine Corps base nearby, the atmosphere is very American, and you can enjoy craft beer with Chicago-style deep-dish pizza and BBQ smoked meats.
Mugi
Pizza and craft beer, what a perfect combo! What kinds of beer do they have?
Hop Bro
The flagship is Wabi-Sabi IPA. It’s an American IPA named after the Japanese aesthetic of "wabi-sabi." It really hits home that the owner, who is from Kathmandu, gave it a name out of respect for Japanese culture. They also have The Ridge 55 Red IPA, a reddish IPA, and Hiroshima Heritage Craft Lager, a lager that carries Hiroshima’s identity.
Mugi
Wabi-Sabi IPA! It’s kind of moving that someone from Nepal would weave Japanese aesthetics into a beer.

They’ve also built a dedicated brewhouse in Iwakuni, so you can drink freshly made beer right there on site. Before, they brewed in Hiroshima and transported it, so the freshness is on a completely different level. The lineup includes more than 20 types, including hazy IPAs and coffee stouts.

Born in Kathmandu, raised in Hiroshima, making a run in Iwakuni. It’s a story that crosses borders and industries. I want to go!
