What kind of brewery is Tamba-Sasayama Tabiji no Brewery?
Hop BroDo you know Fukusumi in Tamba-Sasayama? It’s a post town on the old road that connected Kyoto and Sasayama Castle Town, and it’s a nationally designated Important Preservation District for Groups of Traditional Buildings. There’s a brewery there that renovated a 150-year-old kominka.

Hop BroRight. It’s called “Tamba-Sasayama Tabiji no Brewery,” and the concept is interesting: it’s “traveling beer.” From a post town where travelers once passed through, the beer now travels across Japan to share the region’s appeal.

Hop BroThe lineup has four types: pale ale, weizen, pilsner, and stout. The stout is especially distinctive; it uses coffee beans from the local café “Magnum Coffee” as an adjunct ingredient. It has a dry, toasty finish.

Hop BroAnd there’s more: very nearby is a kominka hotel called “Fukusumi Post Town Hotel NIPPONIA,” and there was even a plan to install beer servers in the guest rooms. Staying in a post town and drinking freshly poured craft beer in your room is way too luxurious, isn’t it?

Hop BroThe brewing setup is a microbrewery with 500-liter batches and three brew tanks. It launched in 2018, so it’s still young, but there really isn’t another place positioned as a modern post town that connects travelers and locals.
