High Life Brewing is a brewery in Tahara City on the Atsumi Peninsula. It was opened in 2023 by owner Yoshihisa Fujishiro and is Tahara City's first craft beer brewery.

Tahara is out near the tip of the Atsumi Peninsula, right? Why there?
Hop Bro
Fujishiro originally ran a restaurant in Tahara, but when he visited San Diego in California, he discovered craft beer and was shocked by a beer with a mango-like flavor. That became the turning point. He spent about three years preparing, then started brewing in a tiny 6-tsubo space.
Mugi
6 tsubo?! That's incredibly small, isn't it?
Hop Bro
Exactly. That is why you can see the brewer's face so clearly. When you step into the taproom with just four counter seats, a gentle fruity aroma drifts through the air. And right next door is a charcoal-grilled yakitori shop, so you can bring in snacks from there. It's basically the perfect setup.
Mugi
That sounds fun! What kinds of beer do they have?
Hop Bro
The main lineup has three beers: West Coast IPA, Hazy IPA, and the Tahara Rice Lager. That rice lager uses rice from Noda-cho in Tahara City as an adjunct ingredient. It's something they can do because they are directly connected with local farmers.

Rice beer! I also saw something called the Nanohana Stout?
Hop Bro
That's a dark beer made with edible nanohana grown on idle farmland in Tahara, plus honey from the local Maruwa Honey Farm. They use 4 kilos of nanohana and 20 kilos of honey for 300 liters of wort. The Atsumi Peninsula is famous for its nanohana fields, so the scenery itself has become beer.
Mugi
I want to drink Nanohana Stout while looking at the flower fields... And the name "HIGH LIFE" is cool too.
Hop Bro
Actually, the name comes from a local pro surfer team. Fujishiro himself is also a surfer, and he chose the name to show his respect for the sea of Tahara. They also run a beer garden in front of Tahara Station in the summer, and his ideal is to build a second brewery. It's a brewery that started small and is growing bigger, exactly what the future should look like.
