Tri-potamia Sanshu Beer, first of all, the origin of the name is stylish. "Tri" means three, and "potamia" means river... it's a coined word that combines Mesopotamia, the birthplace of beer, with the Mikawa region.
Mugi
Wait, Mesopotamia and Mikawa!? That's a combination I'd never have thought of!

The owner and brewer, Ichiro Oguri, was born in Anjo City. He used to work for a manufacturing company, but after he started attending a seminar called "The Appeal of Belgian Beer" held at Aichi University in 2007, he got completely hooked on Belgian beer.
Mugi
A university seminar was the trigger! Going from there to making beer is amazing drive.
Hop Bro
From there, he kept nurturing the idea for years, trained at Iwami Beer in Shimane Prefecture, quit his job... and then renovated an unused detached house in Anjo City into a brewery. He brews in the garage with a prefab refrigerator installed, a true garage brewery.
Mugi
Brewing in the garage of a private house!? That indie vibe is so cool!
Hop Bro
And the beer labels are just as distinctive. There is "The Beer is a Harsh Mistress," a Belgian golden ale, and "The Door into Summer," a Belgian saison...
Mugi
Wait... aren't those the titles of science fiction novels? Like Heinlein?
Hop Bro
Correct! They are taken from classic sci-fi. "Inherit the Beers" is a white ale made with figs. Since he started as a fan of Belgian beer, the lineup is mainly Belgian-style. He brews with Czech hops and Anjo water, and the saison also uses orange peel.
Mugi
A sci-fi fan and a Belgian beer fan... Oguri-san's personality really comes through in the beer names.

The taproom, "Brew Garden ZORAC," is a concrete-raw space filled with plenty of greenery, and it's a 7-minute walk from Anjo Station. What's more, Oguri-san grows barley himself in the fall and hops in the spring in fields within Anjo City, aiming eventually for beer made entirely from Anjo-grown ingredients.
Mugi
He grows the ingredients himself too!? Starting with garage brewing and moving on to cultivating raw materials... I really want to support that challenge!
