A rather unusual brewery has recently opened in Higashidori Village, Aomori. Have you heard of Nooqu Brewery?
Mugi
Higashidori Village? I don't recognize that place... what kind of area is it?
Hop Bro
It's a small village on the eastern side of the Shimokita Peninsula. TEPCO opened a complex called "nooqu" there in December 2025, and a brewery is part of the facility.
Mugi
What! A brewery inside a TEPCO facility? What is that about?
Hop Bro
nooqu is positioned as a "mixed-use facility that gently connects daily life, work, and the local community." It includes employee housing and offices, plus a cafeteria, a library, and a brewery that local residents can also use on the first floor. The name comes from the initials of next, infinity, quest, and unite, and is said to mean a facility that pursues sustainable regional development and connection.
Mugi
Wow, a power company making beer is surprisingly unexpected... but I guess it's aiming for coexistence with the local community.
Hop Bro
The brewery only opened recently, so specific beer labels and style information still hasn't really circulated. It has started appearing in lists of Japanese craft beer breweries, but information is still limited.
Mugi
So in other words, if I go now, it's one of the newest breweries in Japan, right? I can get ahead of the curve!
Hop Bro
Exactly. The Shimokita Peninsula already draws plenty of visitors for sightseeing, but beyond Oma tuna and Osorezan, having craft beer in Higashidori Village adds a new reason to go. That's pretty interesting.
Mugi
I'll have to check it out on my Shimokita Peninsula trip. I'm excited to see what kind of beer they'll make from here on!
