Want to talk about Beer++ in Jujo, Beer Plus Plus Brewing? It’s a brewpub renovated from an old wooden house. The original pillars and beams have been polished and left in place, with a standing counter on the first floor and table seating on the second.
Mugi
Wait, they renovated a house?! That alone already has me interested... Is it close to Jujo Station?
Hop Bro
It’s about a two-minute walk along the tracks from the south exit. They opened in 2014, so they’ve been around for more than 10 years now. Jujo is known for its old-school shopping streets, so having a brewpub there is a great contrast.
Mugi
Ohhh! So what kinds of beers can you drink there?
Hop Bro
The regular lineup has three beers: Pale Ale, Citra Ale, and Amber Ale. On top of that, the seasonals are really interesting. The EF58 Hazelnut Porter has a nutty aroma that’s almost like coffee, and the Tokyo Wine Porter has a light red-wine nuance. They also make quirky beers like "Shinya's Kiwi Blond," which brings out the sweet-tart flavor of kiwi.
Mugi
What?! Kiwi beer?! And I kind of love that they put a person’s name in the title.
Hop Bro
Yeah, it seems like regulars’ and staff members’ names sometimes make it into the beer names. They use American Cascade and Citra hops, Slovenian Styrian Golding hops, and English and Canadian malt. The brewing water is taken straight from Jujo.
Mugi
Beer made with Jujo water and drunk in Jujo? Isn’t that amazing? That’s beer with a true sense of place.
Hop Bro
They also do seasonal releases like the HASAKU Ale, a fruit ale made with hassaku citrus. Because these playful seasonals keep coming out, there’s always something new to discover every time you visit.
Mugi
Strolling through Jujo’s shopping streets and ending the day with a beer at Beer++ sounds like the perfect plan. I want to go!
