Asakusa Beer Kobo is one of the few British-style brewpubs in Japan. Its predecessor was a British pub called "Campione Ale," launched in 2013 by a British owner.

Wow! So a British person started a pub in Asakusa. What happened to it now?
Hop Bro
It joined the Beer Planning group in 2019 and was relaunched as "Asakusa Beer Kobo" in March 2020. But the brewing spirit was carried over, and head brewer Joji Kuroda has continued making British-style beer exclusively since 2013.

Making only British-style beer for more than 10 years is seriously impressive craftsmanship.

Kuroda's signature beer is "Bitter." It's so good that British visitors have said it tastes no different from what they drink back home. Getting approval from the British like that is about the highest praise an English ale can get, right?
Mugi
What! You can drink a bitter in Asakusa that the locals approve of!?
Hop Bro
What's more, they brew more than 20 varieties each week, and about 15 types are on tap at all times. It's not just bitter either - you can enjoy all kinds of English ales. Since the distance from the tank to the beer tap is almost zero, the freshness is on another level.
Mugi
Direct from the tank! It must feel incredibly freshly made. What kind of food do they serve?
Hop Bro
Authentic pub food like fish and chips and English sausages. They even brought in the interior furniture from the UK, so it feels like a British pub has appeared just a 3-minute walk from Tawaramachi Station.

It's perfect for dropping by while sightseeing in Asakusa, and being able to experience an authentic pub is amazing! Kuroda's bitter is definitely a must-try!
