Kichi Brewing is Katsushika Ward's first brewery. Owner Ryosuke Hatori opened it in 2022, and started serving house-brewed beer in January 2023.

The first in Katsushika Ward!? That's surprisingly recent. What kind of person is Hatori?

At 27, he spent two years in Australia on a working holiday and fell in love with craft beer there. After returning to Japan, he trained for about two years at Baird Brewing, and then learned management at a brewery-restaurant in Tokyo. He's someone who steadily followed each step and made his dream happen.
Mugi
Wow, Australia was the starting point? Training at Baird sounds seriously legit.

And the beer names are amazing too. There's an IPA called "Customer-Attracting Se(I)PAnda" - get it? It's a play on "kyakuyose panda" and IPA. "Schrodinger's Black" is a stout, and "Katsushika Industrial Revolution Saison ~K.M. Revolution~" is a fruity, crisp saison.
Mugi
What is that!? The naming sense is way too unique! K.M. Revolution... haha

Hatori himself says, "Every batch feels like an experiment," so they don't have fixed standards and instead change the malt, hops, and yeast ratios each time as research. It's a five-minute walk from Horikiri-Shobuen Station, inside the Horikiri Lucky Street shopping arcade, and you can see the brewing tanks in the back of the shop.
Mugi
A brewery in a shopping arcade is great! It really has that local vibe.

And regular size is only 284 ml starting at 600 yen, which is pretty reasonable. Driven by a desire to share the appeal of beer in the Katsushika where he was born and raised, they even brew a special new beer for the Katsushika Ward Industrial Fair and set up a booth there.
Mugi
That local pride is incredible! It's experimental, and the prices are fair too - a brewery worth rooting for. Let's look up the next event!
