Oizumi-Gakuen Craft Beer Workshop is a brewpub right in front of Oizumi-Gakuen Station on the Seibu Ikebukuro Line, less than a one-minute walk away. And it’s actually the first brewpub in Nerima Ward.

The first in Nerima Ward!? Brewpubs are still pretty rare even in Tokyo’s 23 wards. When did it open?

The shop opened in July 2023, and in January 2024 it started brewing its own craft beer. There’s a brewery right next door, and you can see the brewing equipment through the glass from the street.

Seeing the brewery sounds fun! What kind of beer do they make?

hop excitedHop Bro

They make three beers carrying the name “Nerima”: “Nerima Red Ale,” “Nerima Weizen,” and “Nerima IPA.” Everything is handmade, and once it’s brewed, it’s kegged right away and sent straight to the pub next door. Being able to drink it fresh is the biggest appeal of a brewpub, isn’t it?

“Nerima Red Ale” is a great name! What kind of beer is a red ale?

A red ale has a reddish hue from caramel malt, with a style that brings out a gentle sweetness and malt richness. Since it carries the Nerima name, it’s nice that local people can feel attached to it as “our town’s beer.”

What’s the atmosphere like? Brewpubs feel a little niche, but...

Well, the interior uses wood and greenery, with about 45 seats, around 70 food items, and about 250 drinks. They serve things like pizza, prosciutto, and black-pepper fried chicken wings, and the portions are a manageable size with prices that aren’t too high. It feels completely welcoming even for families.

A brewpub that’s family-friendly is amazing! I heard they get about 10,000 visitors a year, and they’re open from noon on weekends too. Now I kind of want to go to Oizumi-Gakuen!

The operating company runs about 27 restaurants in Tokyo and Saitama, so the comfort here probably comes from solid food and beverage know-how. It’s a new signature spot in Nerima where you can casually enjoy freshly brewed craft beer right by the station.
