Ebina Beer

Ebina Beer has a brewer with an absolutely wild background. Thomas Lehak, from the Czech Republic, used to be a professional tuba player.

And not just any player. He had more than 20 years of experience with the Prague National Theatre Orchestra and the Prague Philharmonia, and he even appeared in the film The Brothers Grimm. He comes from a musical family too, with his father being a violinist in the Czech Philharmonic.

He was homebrewing as a hobby, but his desire to let more people know about great pilsner grew so strong that he opened a brewery in Ebina in 2017.

Exactly. Their flagship Pilsner is a Bohemian-style beer made only with Czech Saaz hops. Ebina Lager blends four kinds of hops, centered on Saaz. And the interesting one is Uppun IPA, an American IPA with a strong bitterness from Amarillo, Citra, and Chinook hops. Even the name has impact.

They always have eight varieties. There is also Hefeweizen and Dark Lager. Everything is naturally carbonated too, so they do not inject artificial carbon dioxide and rely only on naturally produced gas. That gives it a gentler mouthfeel.

They provide the spent malt from brewing to local farmers as fertilizer, and in return receive yuzu from those farmers to use in beer, creating a circular cycle. It is just a three-minute walk from Ebina Station West Exit, so you can enjoy their authentic Czech pub food alongside beer brewed in the traditional style.
