Matsudo's Yagiri Brewery takes its name from the Yagiri no Watashi ferry crossing, but the origin goes deeper than that. The idea of "cutting an arrow" also implies ending conflict, so they have the motto of "connecting people through beer."

Wow! So it wasn't just a place name. Who runs it?

It’s led by representative Kosaburo Watanabe and brewer Masaki Ishida. They were senior and junior teammates in the Central University cycling club. Ishida spent six years teaching himself brewing, then approached Watanabe and said, "I want to start a brewery." That’s how it began.

A brewing project started by cycling club teammates is so moving.

Then Yukiko Watanabe of Matsudo Beer invited them to a craft beer festival. When they brought out their prototype, customers saying "This is delicious!" gave them the push they needed, and they launched in earnest in 2023. Their beer is really pushing boundaries.

Pushing boundaries? What’s it like?

Their gose is made with a strong lime and grapefruit tartness. A beer called Merks has an aroma inspired by whiskey barrel aging. Their saison layers the spicy character of saison yeast with the aroma of dry hopping, and everything shows their stance of "making only what the two of them find interesting."
Mugi
Only making what they find interesting is pretty bold. Do they have a shop?
Hop Bro
They originally didn't have a direct retail shop and mainly sold through e-commerce, but then YAGIRIYA, a beer pub, opened near Yagiri Station, where you can drink draft beer surrounded by American vintage goods. You can also buy it at Masayoshi Shoten in Shin-Matsudo.

They say, "From Matsudo to the world," right? I want to drink that gose first, then send it out to the world!
