REC CIDER BEER WORKS in Kitakata is a rather unusual brewery, because it makes both hard cider and craft beer.
Mugi
Hard cider... so that's apple alcohol? Isn’t it rare to do both cider and beer?
Hop Bro
It is rare. It starts with Fukushima, a fruit-growing region known for its apples, and the water of Kitakata. Kitakata is known as the "city of storehouses," and its water is so good that it was selected for the "100 Famous Waters of the Heisei Era." They brew both cider and beer with that water.
Mugi
Wow! Apple alcohol made with water from the 100 Famous Waters... that alone sounds delicious!
Hop Bro
The brewing is handled by brewer "Tetsuro," and the flagship beer is "Hana Beko Hazy IPA." It’s a gorgeous, juicy hazy with a distinctly Fukushima-like brightness. "Ki Beko YUZU SAISON" is a saison made with yuzu, and together with "Do Beko," it forms the "Beko Series."
Mugi
"Beko" is from Akabeko! The name is cute! I’m really curious about the yuzu saison!
Hop Bro
On the cider side, they have the "Yurayura Hard Cider" series. The Hoppy Cider is an apple cider with a hop accent, and the Cherry Cider is cherry-based. It’s unfiltered, with live yeast, and kept refrigerated for a fresh finish.
Mugi
Apple cider with hops in it! That sounds like something both beer fans and cider fans would love!
Hop Bro
It is operated by Sound Eat Co., Ltd., and they also offer OEM contract brewing services, so they can make original canned beer for other brands too. It feels like they’re sending out a new style from Kitakata’s storehouse district.
Mugi
Kitakata makes me think of ramen first, but it might become a city of craft beer and cider too!
Hop Bro
Kitakata ramen, then Hana Beko Hazy, and finish with Yurayura Hard Cider. That’s a new way to enjoy Kitakata.
