Beer House Hobbit, a craft beer pub in Hirakata, Osaka, has announced the tapping of AGARI IPA from Hansharo Beer Brewing, also known as Hansharo Bia.
AGARI IPA is a Japanese Tea West Coast IPA brewed with Shizuoka-grown matcha, sencha, and stick tea. The tea comes from the Irukaya Furnace Tea-no-an brand, produced by Kuraya Narusawa, the company behind Hansharo Beer Brewing. Matcha and sencha are added at low temperatures to preserve a clean, delicate tea profile.
The beer uses Amarillo Cryo, Cascade, Citra Cryo, Simcoe, and Mosaic Cryo hops. Its aroma opens with lemon and grapefruit-like citrus notes, followed by a soft green character reminiscent of green tea. On the palate, bright citrus hop flavor meets elegant tea umami and a subtle astringency, leading to the sharp bitterness and clean finish expected from a West Coast IPA. AGARI IPA is 6.5% ABV with 40 IBU.
It can be enjoyed on its own to appreciate the interplay between tea and hops, or paired with savory food such as yuzu-pepper-seasoned fried chicken. Located in Kawaramachi, Hirakata, Beer House Hobbit offers a welcoming setting for exploring a broad range of craft beers. Guests interested in tea-forward or experimental IPAs can check with the pub for current availability.
