At Southbound in Hinodecho, Naka Ward, Yokohama, a special event for Valentine’s Day weekend has begun. According to the post, the event runs for three days starting today in a Stout & Cookies format, with the usual draft beer and food offerings joined by s’mores cookies made by in-house staff member Ellen. Guests can enjoy rich barrel-aged stout by the glass and dessert pairings all at once.

The focus this time is the "Marvoloso" series from Virginia’s Commonwealth Brewing Company.

- Marvoloso V9 (ABV 14.6%)
A double barrel-aged imperial dessert stout made with hazelnut, cocoa nibs, cheesecake, and Madagascar vanilla.
- Marvoloso V11 (ABV 12.2%)
A double barrel-aged imperial dessert stout made with Nguyen Vietnamese coffee, malted milk balls, Saigon cinnamon, hazelnut, and cocoa nibs.
- Marvoloso V12 (ABV 12.2%)
A double barrel-aged imperial stout combining peanut butter, dark chocolate, coconut, and cocoa nibs.

Southbound is a brewpub that builds out a meal as carefully as it does the beer. A project like this, which proposes not just drinking but also how to pair with sweets, is hard to miss for anyone who wants to enjoy a heavy winter stout. It also works well as a tasting approach, comparing three high-ABV beers in small pours to explore what you like best.
