Tap News

At the beer pub beer bar Cyblume in Maruyamacho, Shibuya, Tokyo, tap information for Brasserie Knot's "KEARASHI 1year-aged" has been announced. Introduced as a guest beer, it's a bottle hard for dark-beer fans to pass up.

Beer on Tap

"KEARASHI" is an oyster stout made with Akkeshi oyster shells. According to the information, it's a seasonal, rich dark beer with 9.0% ABV. The slight saltiness and minerality derived from the oyster shells are said to support the roasted malt aroma and sweetness. This "1year-aged" version looks like a take on that character with the added cohesion that comes from aging.

Why Drink It at Cyblume

Cyblume is a beer pub in Maruyamacho, a little removed from Shibuya's bustle. Part of the appeal is following the opening of guest beers, and it's well suited to days when you want to savor one beer slowly rather than compare different styles side by side. A low-slung dark beer like KEARASHI reveals its contours the more time you spend with it inside the shop. As you drink while checking the balance of roast, saltiness, and sweetness, you'll likely also sense the careful craftsmanship that feels so distinctly Brasserie Knot.

For anyone who loves dark beer, stout, or oyster stout, of course, and even for those who usually stick to IPA but want to choose a more subdued pint once in a while, this is a tap release worth paying attention to.
