Golden Rabbit Beer Opens a New Small Brewery in Shijonawate, Osaka
Nara-based Golden Rabbit Beer has announced the launch of a new small brewery in Shijonawate, Osaka. Its first brew will use locally grown Hinohikari rice, with more beers featuring rice, fruit, and other ingredients from the area planned for the future.
A new brewing base in Shijonawate
Golden Rabbit Beer has announced that its long-awaited “Golden Rabbit Beer Shijonawate” location has begun taking shape. The new site is a small brewery in Shijonawate, Osaka, described as a brewery born from Golden Rabbit Beer in Nara.
The first beer to be brewed there will use Hinohikari rice grown in Shijonawate. The brewery also plans to create a series of beers featuring rice, fruit, and other locally sourced ingredients. By incorporating products from the surrounding area, the new project aims to express the character of Shijonawate through beer.
Reviving a roughly 60-year-old building
The brewery occupies a building dating back approximately 60 years. After spending a long period unused, it has gradually been renovated with help from many people. The wooden flooring was sourced in Nara, while the counter wood came from Kyoto. The walls and ceiling were stripped of wallpaper and finished with plaster, and the team collected vintage chairs, doors, and a cash register for the interior.
Although many people may have passed the building before, few have seen inside. In its announcement, Golden Rabbit Beer shared an early glimpse of the space, which had been under preparation for some time. More details about the renovation and brewing process are expected to be revealed gradually.
Golden Rabbit Beer operates a taproom in Naramachi, Nara, and focuses on brewing with ingredients from the region. Its Nara taproom also combines craft beer with music played on vintage records, while the brewery itself is located beneath the venue.
The Shijonawate project extends that local approach to a new area. Beer made with local rice and fruit could become a distinctive feature of the new brewery. Details about the taproom opening and the first beer will be announced through the brewery’s official social media channels.
