The beer pub “...04&Beer,” located at 8 Nishi-Borimaedori in Chuo Ward, Niigata City, unveiled that day’s draft beer menu in a May 29 post. In line with a Friday that felt a little cooler after the rain, the shop introduced a lineup of domestic and imported craft beers, along with a hamburger prepared as this week’s food special.

On tap that day was first “Helles” from the long-established Plank brewery in Bavaria. Next were “Swan Lake Porter” from Swan Lake Beer in Niigata, “Tsubame Draught” from Falo Brewing in Miyagi, and “Kizashi” from Karuizawa Q in Nagano. Newly added to the list was “MATSUMOTO Traditional Bitter (Real Ale)” from MATSUMOTO Brewery in Nagano.

The post also noted that it was a “real ale comeback after several days,” making it clear that the shop serves Matsumoto Brewery’s bitter as a cask-conditioned pour. It is a beer aimed at bitter-beer fans, while also offering the appeal of enjoying a character different from ordinary draft beer. The fine, delicate head unique to real ale and the way its flavor changes as the temperature shifts are worth paying attention to.

The food offering was a meat-forward hamburger made with coarsely ground pork. The shop encouraged customers to “enjoy the weekend with meat, vegetables, and beer,” making it easy to picture a style of spending time with a solid meal and craft beer. For anyone looking for a pour that connects local Niigata brands with breweries from other regions in the center of Niigata at Nishi-Borimaedori, this is one to check out.
