A long-awaited return

Matsumoto Brewery TAP Room Honmachi has tapped `Thada Ratu` (`THADA RATU`), Hida Takayama Beer’s seasonal extra special beer. The post frames it as a return after roughly three to four years, and lists the beer at 6% ABV and 33 IBU. Its Sinhala name means "red copper," which fits a beer that seems built around color, depth, and a clear seasonal character.

Flavor profile

According to the post, the beer is fairly bitter up front but finishes clean, making it a strong fit for the warmer months. Hida Takayama Beer describes Thada Ratu as a full-bodied beer with malt bitterness and fruity character, so the first sip should bring toasted malt and the later sips should reveal a softer, sweeter edge. It is the kind of guest beer that keeps bitterness in check without flattening the flavor.

Why it works here

The taproom sits on the third floor of Shinmai Media Garden and has an easygoing city-center feel, with terrace seating that makes it simple to drop in between sightseeing or after work. Pair it with pizza or another light bite and the malt-forward side of Thada Ratu should come through even more clearly. For drinkers who like seasonal guest beers, this is the sort of tap that gives the venue a clear reason to stop by now rather than later.
