Open Air Minatoyama Brewery has unveiled a new West Coast IPA, crushable krush. In this beer, the word “crushable” points to easy drinking and repeatability: the brewery is aiming for a hop-forward beer that still goes down smoothly.
Krush is the lead hop here. It is known for bold aromas that recall mango and grapefruit, and it has drawn attention since its commercial release in 2024. Open Air pairs it with Mosaic, then adds Columbus Cryo in the whirlpool to bring a faint grassy, dank layer that helps the tropical fruit character stand out more clearly.
The beer comes in at 6% ABV and 48 IBU. Even with a hop load that rivals a Hazy IPA, the body is kept dry and the malt profile restrained. The result is a West Coast IPA that aims to balance vivid aroma with a crisp, highly drinkable finish.
Open Air Minatoyama Brewery is located inside NATURE STUDIO in Kobe’s Hyogo Ward. The brewery was built from a former elementary school cafeteria and focuses on beers that make use of Kobe groundwater and seasonal ingredients. Against that backdrop, this release adds another hop-driven beer to the brewery’s lineup.
