The Miyagi, Kesennuma brewpub BLACK TIDE BREWING announced its April 23 release on Instagram. This week’s new offerings are two beers: the second collaboration with Gorilla Brewing of Busan, South Korea, “Gorilla Panic,” and the seasonal saison “Tsutsuji.” Both are a lineup that feels especially easy to enjoy as the weather starts to warm up.

The sales schedule is ONLINE SHOP from Thursday, April 23 at 8:00 p.m., and TAP ROOM from Friday, April 24 at 4:00 p.m.. In addition, Gorilla Panic is scheduled to be served on tap at the TAP ROOM starting Saturday, April 25.

Gorilla Panic

A DDH Hazy IPA brewed as the second collaboration with Gorilla Brewing. The post describes it as a powerful, satisfying beer, “as powerful as a gorilla,” with fruity aromas layered with terpene-derived dankness. It has a strong presence, yet it’s the kind of beer that makes you want to keep drinking.

Tsutsuji

This is a seasonal saison inspired by the azaleas of Mt. Tokusenjo in Kesennuma. Azaleas are featured throughout the label, and the beer offers the fruity and spicy character typical of saison yeast, plus a rye-derived accent. It has an ABV of 7.0%, with restrained bitterness and a dry finish. It’s a style that pairs well with food as spring turns into early summer.

As expected from BLACK TIDE BREWING, located in an area overlooking the sea in Kesennuma, this release balances collaboration-driven playfulness with a sense of local seasonality. Since it can be enjoyed either on draft at the TAP ROOM or purchased through the ONLINE SHOP, it’s a release worth noting for how easy it is to compare the two.
