Visitors Gather for a 3rd Anniversary Milestone

Utsui Brewery thanked the visitors who came to its 3rd anniversary celebration in a post on Instagram. The post said the weather was kind that day and that it was warm enough to feel hot. It also described how well the beer was flowing at the venue, with people saying that even after a pour it still looked as if nothing had been served, conveying the cheerful atmosphere of the event.

A Brewery Rooted in the Community and Welfare

Utsui Brewery is a microbrewery in the Utsui district of Shimonoseki, Yamaguchi Prefecture, which opened in June 2023. Its parent organization is the social welfare corporation Utsui Fukushikai, linking local welfare services with a craft beer business. A defining feature is that it handles everything in-house, from growing its own hops and using Koshihikari rice grown in Utsui to brewing and sales.

VACAN CRAFT and the Character of the Land

The brewery's brand name is "VACAN CRAFT." The name combines Shimonoseki's old name, "Bakan," with "Valuable Ale Can," reflecting a desire to nurture a new industry by making valuable beer together with the local community. Its core lineup, including 01 Rice, 02 Weizen, and 03 IPA, is presented as a range that aims to balance drinkability with individuality.

Regular Operations Shared on Social Media

A feature article in Western Japan also reported that Utsui Brewery is open about three times a month, mainly on Saturdays, and that its taproom has become a gathering place for the local community. This anniversary post can be seen as part of that ongoing record of milestones. Daily operations, connections with the community, and anniversary events: as a local brewery in Shimonoseki, Utsui Brewery is steadily expanding its presence.
