Osaka's Shukujitsu Bakushu will host "Beer Tastes Like This" on Saturday, August 29. While beer judging can sound like something reserved for experts, this event is designed as an approachable introduction rather than a technical seminar.

Participants will get to experience the same basic tasting flow used in beer judging, while actually drinking beer. The focus is on noticing aromas, spotting differences in flavor, and putting those impressions into words, rather than trying to find a single correct answer.

The program includes a tasting of six or more beers, a beer-judge-style sensory session, tips for describing aroma and flavor, and a diacetyl sample experience. It is aimed not only at craft beer fans, but also at people who enjoy beer and want to understand it a little better.

The fee is 4,000 yen, cash only, and the session lasts about two hours. After the event, guests are asked to order one pint at Shukujitsu Bakushu. For a brewery and beer bar rooted in the Hanaten area of Osaka, it looks like a good chance to slow down and enjoy beer with a little more attention.
