Onomichi Brewery Joins the 6th Iwagojima Tomato Festival; Seasonal Beer Too
Onomichi Brewery will take part in the "6th Iwagojima Tomato Festival," held from June 1 to June 30, 2026. Along with the seasonal "Iwagojima Tomato Weizen" made with tomatoes grown on Iwagojima, visitors can enjoy a beer that only a brewpub renovated from an old kura in the back of Onomichi's shopping street can offer.
Onomichi Brewery will participate in the "6th Iwagojima Tomato Festival & Marche," held from Monday, June 1, 2026, through Tuesday, June 30, 2026. Tomato farmers on Iwagojima and 18 shops in Onomichi City are working together in an initiative where each shop offers dishes made with Iwagojima tomatoes, and the brewery is one of the participating businesses.
The highlight is the seasonal beer "Iwagojima Tomato Weizen," made with tomatoes from Iwagojima. According to Onomichi Brewery, it is a refreshing wheat beer that brings out the acidity and green, vegetal character of tomatoes, paired with the aroma typical of a Weizen. Rather than emphasizing tomato sweetness, it is finished in a way that cleanly preserves the shape and character of the ingredients.
Onomichi Brewery is a brewpub renovated from a kura built in 1894, tucked away in Onomichi's shopping district. Under the banner "Made in Onomichi," it continues to brew craft beer that makes use of local fruit and agricultural products. Another attraction is being able to enjoy freshly made beer on the spot, and its location makes it an easy stop during a walk.
During the event period, the appeal is being able to pair Iwagojima tomato dishes with beer made from ingredients rooted in the same area. On Sunday, June 21, "Iwagojima Tomato Marche 2026" is also scheduled, making this a noteworthy early-summer event in Onomichi centered on ingredients from Iwagojima.
