A highly dry Brut IPA

“Champagne Supernova” is a new release from CAGHIYA BREWERY, the brewery behind Key Brewery. It is brewed in the Brut IPA style, with fermentation designed to leave almost no residual sugar. The beer has an ABV of 6.0%, an IBU of 20, and an SRM of 3.1.

The main aromatic feature comes from Nelson Sauvin hops, known for white grape and wine-like notes. Muscat juice adds fresh fruit character, while the dry finish keeps the beer crisp rather than sweet. Although it carries the bold hop aroma associated with an IPA, its body is notably light and refreshing.

The brewery recommends serving it well chilled in a wine or flute glass. This helps highlight the Muscat and Nelson Sauvin aromas, followed by a sharp, clean finish. Seafood, prosciutto, and fresh cheese are suggested pairings, making the beer suitable for a meal as well as a casual toast.

A local brewery in Kawasaki

Key Brewery is a small, community-focused brewery in Kawasaki that produces around ten craft beer varieties by hand. Its taprooms and beer bars offer freshly made beer alongside food, while some locations use a self-pouring tap system that makes it easy to compare several styles.

Key Brewery’s Minami-Kase location is at 3-23-9 Minami-Kase, Saiwai-ku, Kawasaki, Kanagawa. With production volumes limited by its small-batch approach, “Champagne Supernova” is a release worth checking while the Muscat-forward, dry Brut IPA remains available.
