Onomichi Brewery taps Mashiro Coffee Porter, a black beer brewed with beans from Mashiro Coffee
Onomichi Brewery has tapped Mashiro Coffee Porter, a black beer made with specialty beans roasted specially by Mashiro Coffee in Mukaishima. The beer is described as smelling like cold brew while staying light enough to drink easily.
Onomichi Brewery is a brewpub housed in a kura storehouse built in 1894, and it is known as a place where visitors can drink freshly brewed beer in Onomichi. The brewery focuses on local ingredients and serves beer right from the tap in the back streets of the shopping district.
The newly tapped beer, Mashiro Coffee Porter, is a recurring summer release with a strong coffee character. It uses specialty coffee beans roasted specifically for this beer by Mashiro Coffee in Mukaishima. According to the brewery, the beans are steeped in a way similar to dry hopping, creating aromas reminiscent of cold-brew coffee. The beer is 5.5% ABV.
The brewery's post describes the beer as carrying a striking cold-brew-like aroma, with bitterness associated with Indonesian coffee and floral acidity linked to Ethiopian beans. Although it is a porter, it is designed to stay approachable rather than heavy, making it appealing not only to dark-beer fans but also to coffee drinkers looking for a beer with clear aromatic character. Onomichi Brewery also offers other beers built around local ingredients, so it works well as a stop during a walk through Onomichi for a fresh pour on site.
