Cliff Garo Brewing to Launch the Okinawa Hyakkei Canned Series, with Two Limited Beers in September
Cliff Garo Brewing in Okinawa City announced a new canned beer series, “Okinawa Hyakkei.” Two limited releases, Vol. 1 and Vol. 2, are planned for September, and both beers are new recipes. Brewer-artist Cliff will also illustrate the can labels.
Cliff Garo Brewing in Okinawa City announced on Instagram that its new canned series, “Okinawa Hyakkei,” is about to begin. The series will turn everyday Okinawan scenes, from well-known spots and eye-catching objects to unnamed streets, into beer label art.
According to the post, sales are planned to start in September. Vol. 1 and Vol. 2 will be released at the same time in limited quantities, and all of the beers inside the cans will be new creations. The brewery also says it hopes people will keep the cans and display them after drinking.
Cliff Garo Brewing is a microbrewery based in Taka-hara, Okinawa City. It is known for beers brewed with Okinawan fruits and spices, as well as for labels that carry small stories. In this project, Cliff, who is both a painter and brewer, appears to be using the label as part of the beer’s expression.
The brewery has long worked with local ingredients and a strong sense of place. With “Okinawa Hyakkei,” it is extending that approach from flavor to packaging, inviting drinkers to enjoy the landscape as much as the beer itself. The new releases are likely to draw attention not only for what is inside the can, but also for what is painted on it.
