Open Air Minatoyama Brewery releases Repubrew collab gin botanical IPA
Kobe-based Open Air Minatoyama Brewery has introduced botanical groove, a collaboration with Numazu’s Repubrew. The beer translates Repubrew’s gin recipe into an IPA and is now available as kegs and cans through Open Air’s online and trade channels.
Open Air Minatoyama Brewery in Kobe’s Hyogo Ward has announced “botanical groove,” a collaboration beer made with Repubrew in Numazu, Shizuoka. Repubrew also distills craft gin in addition to brewing beer, and this release is described as taking that gin recipe and turning it into an IPA. Sales have started through Open Air’s official online store and its trade shop, with both keg and can formats mentioned.
The beer is labeled as a gin botanical IPA. It comes in at 6.5% ABV and 40 IBU, with Crystal hops listed alongside juniper berry, coriander seed, lemongrass, orange peel, and black pepper. In the brewery’s description, the beer is framed as an IPA with resinous, conifer-like aromatics and layered botanical nuance.
Open Air Minatoyama Brewery is located inside NATURE STUDIO, a complex built on the grounds of a former elementary school, where the old school cafeteria was renovated into the brewery. Open Air has positioned itself around seasonal beers that make use of hops and herbs, and this collaboration follows that approach closely. Suggested pairings include herb chicken, white fish carpaccio, and spice-forward nuts.
