A summer-ready pairing from a backstreet beer pub

04&Beer, a craft-beer pub tucked into an alley in Niigata’s Nishibori-maedori district, used its latest Instagram post to lean into the heat. The kitchen side of the update was an okra-and-molokhiya beef curry, built with generous amounts of premium Japanese black wagyu and finished with sweet-and-sour pickled ostrich fern for texture and lift.

The beer side was Tamamura Honten’s barrel-aged “Yama-Bushi b3 miyama shoubu.” The post notes that Yama-Bushi has turned into b3 miyama shoubu, making clear that this is a beer in the Yama-Bushi lineage. It is an easy post for beer drinkers to read: a rich, sticky curry paired with a barrel-aged beer that should have enough depth to stand beside it.

Even without a big event announcement, the message is specific. The shop’s profile places it in Furumachi, where the goal is simply to enjoy craft beer with something, or with someone. That is the appeal here: a low-key neighborhood pub using food and beer to give a hot day a clear destination.
