Karuizawa Brewery in Nagano has introduced “Karuizawa Beer Chocolat” as a new way to enjoy the Valentine’s season.

According to the Instagram post, this chocolat contains ganache made with dark beer. The company says it is suitable not only for people who like sweets, but also as a small gift for beer lovers, and the key point is that it is being promoted with a suggestion to pair it with beer and chocolate.

What is especially noteworthy is the approach of turning the flavor of beer into a confection rather than offering the beer itself. It can be read as a way of expanding the enjoyment of craft beer beyond the liquid itself and into the food experience.

According to the brewery’s product information, its “Premium Dark” has an Amber Lager style and an alcohol content of 5.5%. This relatively gentle direction of roastiness and malt character makes it easy to imagine a good match with chocolate, and it has strong affinity with this chocolat project as well.

In the post, the company says that visitors who come for a factory tour should look for it in the shop, and that people should also pick it up if they see it at supermarkets and elsewhere. In broadening the reach of craft beer culture, product design that is not limited to drinking occasions is effective. For beer fans, it is a seasonal topic that can be enjoyed in three ways: drinking, giving, and pairing.
